    Bobby Ferguson

Was reading an article about the former West Ham goalkeeper Bobby Ferguson, on a Saturday he played in goal for the 1st team then in mid week he played as a winger for the stiffs, wouldn’t get that these days.

Many will remember the famous FA Cup match between Hereford and Newcastle in 1972.

Hereford’s goalie was Fred Potter and his sons went to The Grange School with me and my brother, his one son Mark was my brother’s best mate.

Fred was at Villa as a youth player as a attacking player and scored 5 in a match before volunteering to take over in goal when the keeper got injured.

He played so well he was persuaded to convert to being a keeper and had a 15 year career between the sticks and was man of the match in the original draw at Newcastle.
