    Huddersfield Fan on Grant

This isn’t a bad deal for West Brom. When you consider how much Aston Villa paid for Ollie Watkins, £15m is a decent price for a striker who’s been prolific at every level of English football. Watkins has more to his game than Grant to justify the steeper price tag but goals are an expensive commodity and Grant has the ability to deliver them.

I mentioned in an earlier post about Grant going to West Brom, it’s not clear he will immediately slot into West Brom’s central striker position. He played most of last season off the left flank and whenever he played through the middle he was poor. Admittedly, this was in a struggling team that provided him little service but he failed to hold up the ball or to link play when the front of a three, making him ineffective and frustrating to watch.

Surely West Brom’s scouting team have done their homework on Grant though and have a plan to accommodate him into their system that compliments his best attributes. If not he’ll most likely struggle, as most of his goals come from getting the ball on the left side of the penalty area, turning onto his right and shooting across the keeper.

Heard this from a few of their fans, that he is not typically a central striker. He has goalscoring ability, his record shows that but his attributes, according to them, are not suited to being the sole one up front. Who knows though, he will have Perriera and Diangana behind him and no doubt we will be playing a different system to what they played last season.

He scored 19 goals last season in a struggling side, that really focused on being hard to break down before creating and attacking. Can't really say we have the same mindset or game plan to that.

You just feel with Albion that if its as a wide left striker is his best position then he will get asked to play as a defensive right wing back. Excuse my cynicism. I just hope that the kid can deliver as there is a huge expectation been put on his shoulders.

I've thought all along we were signing someone to 'lead the line.' Seems that's not his game. Needs to work out for us.
