Thanks for that Brin. I hadn't got a clue who she was and must admit my life is no better now I do. Is she American or just trying to sound like one? TBH we used to go to a nativity presentation every year when we lived in CA and the woman there used to do that song 100x better than that.

Ah one of Leonard Cohen’s finest works, and a song that on occasion drives me mad depending on who is singing it.

There are some rhyming phrases in the song, for example:-

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Where overthrew you, if pronounced overthrew ya then rhymes with Hallelujah, but you get some mug singers that sing it as written and the rhyme is lost

    Arghhhhh........rant over

CAM, Here's a bit about her. I remember her mum in the band Soul to Soul, lovely voice sadly no longer with us.

Alexandra Burke was born in Islington , London on 25 August 1988, daughter of David Burke (born 1954) and Melissa Bell (5 March 1964 – 28 August 2017). Her mother was a soul and R&B singer, and featured as a singer in the band Soul II Soul . She is of Dougla , Jamaican, and Irish descent.

Indeed, you learn something new every day

I had to look up what being of dougla descent meant

It’s not a typo from the Isle of Man

I assumed it meant she was the daughter of Jack Douglas just as he suffered one of his famous spasms

I reckon the best duet ever on the X Factor was Alexandra and Beyoncé in the 2008 final. See in full below :
