    O/T Dustbin Men

Who remembers when dustbin men worked hard for a living? They really don't do very much now in comparison.

Probably not called dustbin men any more; recycling facilitators or refuse collection operatives. You really mustn’t have any reference to their gender in case you offend gender neutral persons; it can’t be anything with ‘man’ in it because it could be a woman.

All a load of rubbish, if you ask me!

Sometimes it is best not to comment on these things for fear of upsetting a feely touchy or snowflake type. Dustmen were dustmen and dust women were probably few and far between in those halcyon day's, enough said perhaps other than, I do remember those, such as are in the photograph.

Could never understand why some folks look down on bin men, probably one of the most valuable jobs in society, a month without bin men and we would be over run by rats and disease.

Absolutely, where would we be without them, as you say in a right royal mess. Worth every penny they earn.

Along with the song by Lonnie Donnagan, my old man actually was a dustman for years, lugging those bins about shown in your picture. In fact, a lot of the toys we had for Christmas came from the bins in the richer part of the town! Kids have it so easy these days.

Heavy bins and quite often still full of hot ashes spilling on their necks hence many of them wore a hat with a flap down the back of the neck. Tipped the bins by hand and lugged the bins back into the back yards they took them from. Nowadays my bins end up four or five houses down the road from our house.

Our bin blokes in Worcestershire are great.

If we have additional rubbish, mainly from the garden, we leave them £20 and they’ll take away an extra 5 or 6 huge refuse bags.

We’ve got a great postman as well who takes the trouble to put our stuff in the garage or keep it until we’re next at home.

We give him £20 every Xmas.

I’d love to see the return of the milkman as well.

    I wouldn’t have to face having s e x at all!

Our lot are super fit lads. They jog between pickups. It’s like they are training for the Iron Man event or something. Different from the old fashioned stereotypes of yesteryear
