Funnily enough High Noon and Stagecoach although being classic westerns are way down on my list.
Both are pretty similar in storyline.
Not much happens in either of them until the end.
I would much sooner watch an old fashioned Randolph Scott or Joel McRea film.

The bits of High Noon where 'nothing happens' are the best bits.

A western hero admitting he's afraid, the west shown as it really is stark and pretty grim not all big blue skies and spectacular rock formations, glances at the clock, static shots of the rail tracks, so many great individual stories told in words and silences, the glances at the clock and best of all for me the different reactions when the train whistle blows. Oh and Oscar winning Gary Cooper

The showdown at the end is the is for me least interesting part of the film. Seen similar in dozens of westerns.

I said I'm not a fan of westerns so perhaps me finding the nothing happens first couple hours excellent and the shoot em up finale routine is hardly surprising.

    Casey Jones 😏😎

If I read the OP again and include 'as a child' then I was a avid fan of them all. Lone Ranger anyone?

Loved Casey Jones. Now can't get the tune out of my mind. Can't watch the intro without smiling. Thanks Mick.

Loved westerns as a kid. Still do! My favourite was 'Wells Fargo' with Dale Robertson.
