Got a WhatsApp from a friend. The current 6th placed favourite for the vacant Manager's job to fill the post, initially, until the end of the season. Will we get a warm welcome for the Wally.......?
The end of the season bit. Why would that be? Sufficient time for Rooney to get his badges, take over and the Wally move upstairs as Director of Football?
Hmm, just did a quick hunt on t'internet and found 6 different 6th favourites on 6 sites.... Cowley, Pearson, Howe, McClaren, Rooney, Allardyce.
Allardyce now one of favourites - odds on on some sites. Not one for me
From that particular list I can see why Allardyce would be favourite.
Cowley(s)...only successful at Lincoln I think.
Pearson...seriously flawed character imo...once bitten twice shy.
Howe...very successful at Bournemouth, but nowhere else.
McClaren...only in contention to ‘hand hold’ Rooney. Over six years since he (almost) achieved anything at all.
Rooney...great players don’t necessarily make good managers...eg. Bobby Charlton, Peter Shilton, Mark Wright, Dean Saunders, Nigel Clough etc and, in the short term, he needs a mentor anyway.
Could do a lot worse than ‘Big Sam’...been there, seen it, done it, if Benitez is unavailable and unrealistic he might be the next best thing imo.

Allardyce would be a good choice IMO. He should certainly be able to get us out of the mess we are in. Now is not the time for playing the "derby Way" its about getting the team to play cohesively and scrap to get to safety. If he was appointed until the end of the season I'd be happy.
Totally agree Swale, this situation requires a been there, done that, I know what the duck I'm doing guy! We need a Big Bertha howitzer gun, not a couple of pea shooters, to blast our way out of this mess! Big Sam for me, duck how just get this shower of misfits doing the biz any which way we can!
According to someone I know who has links with the club, Mac isn't being considered as manager and the aim is to appoint a manager who has a proven track record of managing successfully in the championship.
Now that can be taken with a pinch of salt or as a realistic approach, whether its fact or fiction I cannot say.
