    Sam Osborne

I urge everyone to read the recent performances from one of our own!! A young talented player treated harshly by Mr Ardley and never given a decent run in the side to demonstrate his potential. He is the star man at Leamington FC and us scoring freely and running the show. He scored 2 and made most of all the forward play in last game away at high flying Curzon. What we could do with him and Ruben in midfield along with one battler, my god we would tear up teams with speed and energy. No more side of back passing from the old guys!!!

Ardley prefers to play to with 2 ageing midfielders who's slow play suits his style of play, forget Notts playing with any pace, look what he's done with Enzo, he hardly gets into scoring positions.

Not a step up, agreed, but not that much of a step down.

I thought Curzon was a cinema chain.

If Osbourne were still at Notts and you wanted to play him and Rodriguez, I assume you would be dropping Enzio for him?

He was not Ardleys signing, thats why... He prefers to play with geriatric journeymen, or have loan players who are useless..

    Curzon Ashton 0 Leamington 3

    Vanarama National League North
    Tameside Stadium
    Saturday 21st November 2020

Brakes quickly added their first away win of the campaign to their opener against Alfreton on Tuesday evening by topping off a memorable week with a fine performance at Curzon Ashton.

Paul Holleran made one change to the team which started the tremendous comeback encounter, Josh Martin replacing Junior English, who dropped to the bench, where he was joined by Richard Batchelor.

A small group of around 19 home fans gathered outside the stadium taking advantage of a perfect viewpoint from the elevated car park were to leave disappointed as their team were well beaten despite working very hard throughout.

Danny Waldron forced Leamington’s first corner of the afternoon, Sam Osborne’s delivery met by a powerful flying header from Lance Smith which whistled inches over the Curzon crossbar. Waldron registered Brakes’ next effort, cutting in from the left touchline to drive a low strike towards goal which wasn’t too far wide.

The confidence gained from registering the first win of the season was in evidence in the opening stages. Brakes looked well organised and broke forward with purpose. Skipper Jack Edwards was next to try his luck, spanking a rasping first time drive towards goal from Osborne’s lay off which Nash keeper Cameron Mason could only parry.

Leamington opened the scoring on 14 minutes with a glorious goal. Some superb hold up play from Smith saw him lay the ball back for Josh Martin to ping a long ball forward which bypassed the Curzon defence, allowing Osborne to tear onto it and advance a few paces before clipping a delightful effort over the stranded Mason from some 20 yards out.

The hosts were straight on the offensive from the restart, Darren Stephenson twisting and turning inside the Leamington penalty area before attempting a shot which was well blocked at source by Jack Lane. However, within a couple of minutes they found themsleves further behind thanks to more fine work from Smith and Osborne down the Leamington right. Superb work on the touchline from the number 9 saw him feed Osborne, whose driven effort across goal struck someone on its way into the far corner, though initially it was unclear whether it was Danny Waldron or a defender.

Having never scored more than once in a game at the Tameside Stadium, Leamington were in dreamland, but it was quickly apparent that they were going to have to work extremely hard to hold on to their advantage, another good run and strike from former Stockport County man Stephenson flying just over Jake Weaver’s crossbar.

Doug Tharme’s strong header dropped just wide from a corner for the hosts, while Smith was extremely unfortunate not to get a clear run on goal as he wrestled his way past Nash skipper Paul Turnbull, who went to ground as soon as the striker got goal side of him to win a free kick. In the player’s defence he had apparently pulled his hamstring minutes beforehand, and was quickly replaced, but it didn’t detract from the decision going against the Leamington player, who did not commit the foul he was penalised for.

Smith then ran at the Curzon defence again, this time down the left, his shot being deflected behind for another corner kick.

Brakes then won a succession of corners, and it was from the third of these that Lane’s header struck the outside of the post.

Curzon were clearly not going to roll over and accept defeat though, and Connor Hughes saw a shot charged down by Martin for a corner, while he was left in a little too much space for comfort inside the Leamington box, but with the help of Martin his shot was deflected safely into the arms of Weaver.

Into the dressing room with a solid first 45 minutes and a two goal cushion behind them, Leamington added another goal of the season contender to their collection for the afternoon five minutes into the second half. Receiving the ball some 25 yards or more from goal from a half clearance, Jack Lane drew back his left boot and thundered possibly the goal of his life into the top corner past a flailing Mason. An absolutely top drawer strike from the central defender.

To their credit the home side refused to concede the game and continued to plug away. Matty Waters powerful strike from the left which was well blocked led to a flurry of corners, which ended with Sam Walker unleashing a piledriver from distance from which Weaver arched his back to produce a fine save, pushing the ball over his crossbar.

Osborne forced Mason into another save with a low strike from the edge of the box, while an unorthodox free kick routine saw hesitation from Osborne and Morley spark confusion in the home defence, who as a result did not regain their shape when Osborne eventually played the ball in for Edwards to glance a header narrowly over the bar, the offside flag being raised immediately.

Eternal fans favourite Batchelor, signed on dual registration from currently out of action Rushall Olympic, came on for the last few minutes to add another appearance to the 167 he had made in two previous spells.

Tremendous work from Waldron to first keep the ball in play and then win it back, set up another chance for Osborne, who drove the ball in from a tight angle on the left inside the box, forcing another fine save from Mason.

Curzon tempers flared moments before the full time whistle as Stephenson was harshly booked for a challenge on Waldron as he turned on the afterburners to charge into the Curzon half. He then foolishly went in late on Steph Morley in front of the home dugout, and was promptly shown a second yellow card by Referee Daniel Locker. This enraged Nash manager Steve Cunningham, who was shown a yellow card for an expletive filled rant. It was difficult not to have a little sympathy with him despite the industrial language, but in the context of the game it mattered little as Leamington put in one of their most complete performances for some time to register their first ever win at the Tameside Stadium, and erase any lingering memories of that FA Vase Quarter Final defeat some 13 years ago.

I pointed out on the match thread he has scored 4 goals in his last 2 games.

He wouldnt start for us as we saw that last season but im keeping an eye out for his progress.

I think he will play NL at least in the next few years he proved here he had talent and was raw but he can play thats for sure.

As for Sid taking p*ss out of Leamington they are only a league below us and who is to say in 3-4 years time we might be in that league like York/Kidderminster both ex league clubs.

Let's assume we had never heard of Osborne - he was an unknown - would you be happy to sign him? Or would you be looking for someone with a higher pedigree than ex-National League, now National League North?

Well no because I think we need to look at young talent om the way up.

Two examples of this are Brentford and Peterborough.

Peterborough are the stand outs for me they do this on a regular basis and it seems to be working for them as they are always top half league one club probably their level.
