    I liked your post Phil.

The “teaching us a lesson” bit applies to my other cat Chloe who specialises in this, shes very aloof and seemingly unaware she’s a basic moggie 😆

Millie was different, never held a grudge and always, always glad to see us and grateful for her home.

I’m having an extremely bad day.

Thanks for everyone’s comments and wishes.

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss Mick. Never owned a cat but I've had 4 dogs since very early childhood. After the last Jack Russell died one night aged 16, I said I wasn't having another as it's a horrible moment when it comes.

I got together with my partner over 6 years ago and she had 2 dogs, the mother and the daughter. Both dogs have now passed and it was an awful time when it happened 12 months apart as I thought the world of both of them. I still miss them terribly.

What helped me was the fact that both our dogs had a very good innings (15 & 16 years) both had tons of love, good food, nice walks and were never ill etc. They were even a regular fixture every year with us when we went to Rick Steins in Padstow where the staff fussed them like nothing else. You can't do any more than that.

The fact that I'm sure you've done exactly the same for your cat and helped it live a long happy life should give you some comfort and some perspective. I always think that in human terms its a bit like losing a very elderly relative who has been doted on and lived well and loved. You can't ask for any more.

That’s such sad news and I really am sorry for your loss. I work in a vets and although it is both a rewarding and upsetting job at times, it’s been so hard this last few months. We have been so busy, I guess people have had new pets during lockdown and also have more time to be able to come to us and sort their pets problems out. But a few cases have stuck with me where we have had to put pets to sleep where they are clearly that persons only companion, and it just seems so much harder during these difficult times. Having to do this wearing full PPE and keeping our distance has been totally heartbreaking. I really hope you are feeling a little better today Mick and remembering the happy times.

I also had to make that dreaded final journey to the vets one night, to see my dog get injected and then I had to watch the life simply drain out of him in front of me. The tail stopped wagging and the eyes dimmed... aww I won't ever forget it.

What angered me though that night was the attitude of the vet. Not only did he quote a ridiculous price for a put-down call out, he seemed callus and ignorant to our plight and suffering their at the vets that night.
