Interesting footnote ref Garwood, we've all heard the rumour that he was a serial shagger (other players wives). Not so apparently, according to him when he signed in 78 he was promised a fee by Deacon for a downpayment on a house. Deacon welched on the deal & after approaching him again about it Deacon decided to sell him. Silly from Deacon. David Gregory cost us 60k but was nowhere near as effective in the goalscoring stakes. We sold Garwood for 40k to the Shots iirc, so the reality was it cost us more to get rid than the down payment on the house. JD was a strange man..
We finished 4th & were promoted but imho if Garwood had stayed we'd possibly have won it as champions. The Champions were Huddersfield from memory & we destroyed them twice, 3-1 up there & 4-1 down here
