This is surely the time for one to put ones head in ones hands in despair. Regressive move to my mind, the sort of move that must surely presage either the takeover having collapsed or the new owners not actually having much disposable income to drive ambitions

Having a football expert advise our senior management team on the next appointment, recruitment etc is a good idea in my opinion. Otherwise Mel will make some stupid decision again.

He’s now described in the DT as ‘advisor to the new owners once the takeover is complete’, Adi...so not sure Mel will have much, if any, say.

All a bit confusing but maybe not as ‘regressive’ as GP implies.

the issue as I see it was that Mac was a good coach, tactically and in terms of handling the players on the training ground etc

As he moved up the "intellectual spectrum" this is when his limitations became more clear - transfers were not that great and it seemed to me that he was the perfect "peter principal" candidate. The higher he got the less effective he became. So now, at board level advisory, he is potentially above his comfort level and equally further away from what he does best.

He would have been a great assistant manager / head coach, but not so sure about this

Unfortunately, this sums up my feelings regarding Mac.

Would he want to play assistant manager? He's "completed" that game, and some. Mac part IV is on!
