The radio and TV are presently full of gushing over the top platitudes. One word I have not heard mentioned is ‘cheat’.

How ironic that George Best died on this same day 15 years ago.

Totally agree. Cheated against England ,thrown out of u.s.a World Cup in 94 for drugs. Refused paternity’s tests here and there.Nasty piece of work..to hear our media now blowing smoke up his backside is a disgrace to proper football greats who have passed away this year.Diegone.best handball player ever.

You do wonder what he might have been as a player had it not been for the booze and coke he took for much of his career.

Whilst The Hand of God was blatant cheating, Shilton cocked up as he should have gone through the ball and Maradona and cleared it, especially a keeper of his experience and ability but he was a very poor second letting Maradona cheat. It should never have happened in the first place.

How come this w anker below seems to know everybody and is the first to leave a tribute? Wish this liberal t wat would choke on a packet of Walkers!

Gary Lineker, who was in the England side beaten by Maradona's Argentina in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final, led the tributes on Twitter, writing: "By some distance the best player of my generation and arguably the greatest of all time.

"After a blessed but troubled life, hopefully he'll finally find some comfort in the hands of God. #RipDiego."
