Very interesting results Rross. Wonder if you used your nom de plume or your own name. I have spent years writing detailed, informative and in my view very helpful emails to many politicians. Without exception I never received an answer that showed that the person writing the reply had understood the points being made. Keep it simple- you get a thank you for your comments. Be more taxing and you get a standard acknowledgment saying thank you for your comments, we are aware of the issues that you have raised. Give them pelters and you get a print out of the official policy with absolutely no acknowledgment of the content of your email.

I am coming round to the view that politics trumps government every time. It doesn't matter what the sensible course of action may be, if it is something that has been condemned then hell will freeze over before the officials will advise the politicians that their initial plan is inferior to an alternative idea suggested by another political party.

Own name and add and postcode.

They won't reply if not a constituent.

It's very easy to find who you are looking for on the "write to them" link on Hitchens blog.

Pop in your postcode and you get a list of your Msps, mps and councillors.

E mail thru link, submit, then you get an e mail sent to you confirming if you want to send. Press send....it's done.

I don't think many elected officials put out just how easy it is to contact them.....most would rather pontificate all day on social media then block you.😉

Been pleased to read Gordon Brown's comment about the Bifab fiasco in the Daily Mail! Politicians just don't get it that they need to back Scottish based businesses. Same thing about the ferriesw, and there must be a good chance of a significant number of smaller naval boats to help chase Danes and French out of Scottish waters. Need to box clever and make sure that Scottish yards are part of the UK procurement process. big opportunity for Labour to get back to their traditional roots. Maybe worth a wee email?
