    1980s/1990s midfielders

Watched a few sky sports football pieces in the last few months and some of the past players like Roy Keane were explaining how tough but accomplished some of the midfielders from those eras were. Wonder if we forgot that as well as being tough they could also play.

    Wonder what the likes of
    Batty
    Petit
    Lee
    Sherwood
    McMahon
    Ince
    Muzzet
    Bowyer
    Lake
    Bracewell

To name but a few who are still appreciated by their clubs fans but tend to have faded in the more general fans mind.

Batty I think is one of the most underrated players as was Petit.

Quite a few Red cards to be dished out on that list if they played in today's era.

    Hehe true -
Not many would make it past 45 mins - I miss the hard nosed edge of those midfield contests.

The games where you had clashes like Batty v Keane, McMahon v Robson, Keane v Vieira, Horlick v anyone (even his own team mates) - used to get a real buzz of anticipation leading up to the game.
