Paulo Rossi. Italy’s World Cup hero of the 82 tournament. Aged 64. “A long illness”.

Scored a hat trick v Proper Mannies’ Brazil in the semi-final, and then scored the first goal v West Germany in the final. It was good to see three go past Harald Schumacher after his brutal assault on Battiston, in an otherwise terrific semi-final.

Brazil was in the group of death with Italy and Argentina.
Argentina was a fancied team as well.
Brilliant games and a team that just suddenly came alive.
They ripped Germany a new ar**hole in the final.

And should've faced Miller and McLeish in the 1984 European Cup Winners Cup Final Aberdeen v Juventus in Basel had it not been for a Dickensian haar the rolled off the North Sea engulfing Pittodrie on a very important April night...That night would've been an amazing atmosphere with Basel covered in sea of black/white and red...
