Appeals - Kilmarnock FC and St Mirren FC

    On the SFA website...

Appeals - Kilmarnock FC and St Mirren FC

Update following receipt of Appeals from Kilmarnock FC and St Mirren FC:

In accordance with JPP 14.13, a Suspension Tribunal has confirmed that the decisions of the Sub-Committee of the SPFL Board sitting as a Tribunal (Kilmarnock FC and St Mirren FC) are suspended pending the outcome of the Appeals hearing.

The Appeals hearings have been scheduled for Thursday 14 January 2021.

    And from the SPFL...

“The SPFL notes the statement by the Scottish FA, confirming the decision of the independent tribunal in respect of preliminary issues in the St Mirren and Kilmarnock appeals.

"The SPFL notes that the appeals will be heard on 14 January 2021 and in accordance with the tribunal’s decision, will update the Premiership table pending the outcome of the appeals process.”

Struggling to see the point of that either way tbh.

Standard practice following an appeal. The original decision is put on hold until the appeal is heard. It will then be upheld, rejected or amended I guess.

While I have some sympathy for St Mirren and Kilmarnock (even though they broke the guidelines) it should be remembered that Motherwell are an innocent party.

Not only an innocent party, but the uncertainty continues for us for another 3 weeks or so.

I hope that seeing our league placing without the Covid points brings home to the players just how worrying our position is and gets them absolutely focused on digging out results that generate points. I do not think we can assume that the appeals will be dismissed and we certainly should not be counting on the six points being awarded to us.

In typical fashion, both games will have their outcomes reversed in the last minute with the 3-0 Motherwell victories flipped into 0-3 losses granted in favor to both opposition teams. That will hurt, but that's kind of how so many games are being thrown away recently that we'll be thankful the score-lines awarded weren't deemed to be greater.

Prediction for 2021. The 6 points will almost certainly be lost on appeal. The games will be rescheduled to be played in the New Year and we will win both.

That would be the ideal outcome but I think the appeal may be dismissed. Time will tell.

Backing us for six points is highly optimistic atm.

Funnily enough, specifically as a Motherwell fan I'm not overly fussed whether we keep the points or not. From a general Scottish football point of view, I'm hoping St Mirren and Killie get laughed out of court though and I've yet to see any legal hint of why that wouldn't be the case.
