Looks like he'll be the man then. Hope his little black book has a few good surprises for us.

Be interesting to see who is in charge on Saturday as it doesn’t give Alexander much time to get to know the players, their strengths and weaknesses. Suspect he will want Lasley beside him in the dugout short term at least. Just hope we get a positive reaction from whoever pulls the MOTHERWELL jersey on for the rest of the season

Wouldn't have been my first choice but certainly not too unhappy. He's going to have to hit the ground running and to be honest I think any medium-term plans seem somewhat ridiculous to consider given we've - arguably - taken the riskier short-term option given what failure there means.

First thought - odd we don't mention his contract. To the end of the season? Long-term but with a break clause in May?

Second thought - Lasley will be dusting down his CV, which I think is the right move. I'd love to see him as Motherwell manager but he needs to make a success of a League One/Championship job first and he'll surely be considering every vacancy which comes up. Keeping him in the short-term is the right thing to do, not just morally but an immediate insight into the squad given the situation and timeframes.

Third thought - "It’s something different," said GA. "I have been a manager now for seven to eight years ... But this is out of my comfort zone." Joint bottom of the table and with an appalling squad needing an urgent January overhaul is a hell of a time to pick a "something different" guy ahead of Tommy Wright...

I'm quite surprised and also quite pleased about this appointment.

He has managerial experience and has a decent reputation and it's potentially the 'new broom' that we've been needing for years now. He's got one tough, tough job on his hands with that squad but all the very best to him and welcome to Fir Park.

I could imagine that if we stay up it's a good appointment.

But to play devil's advocate, if we agree there's more of risk appointing him rather than someone who knows the league etc (ie Wright), what does he have to deliver that Wright couldn't to make that risk worth it?
