Totaly agree with most of what you all say. The defending for Dale's third goal was laughable and, more importantly, preventable. You don't see defending at corners like that in Sunday league, let alone League 1. Everybody sucked under the flight of the ball and their player left all alone to bring the ball under control and smash it into the roof of the net. The same sort of criticism can be levelled at the other two; plenty of people in defensive positions, but nowhere near where the ball is. Their 1st goal came from a corner that was cleared back out to the corner taker. No-one closed him down, and he had the time and space to pick his spot. Their second again came from a ball cleared out of our box. Loads of our guys were in the penalty area, but no-one closed Matty Lund down, and he picked his spot. Agree that the paucity of first players on the bench wouldn't have helped, but all of our players should've been fresh, as they hadn't played since boxing day. I thought Wintle was not up to his normal standards - okay on the ball, but off the ball, not good enough. Ducked out of too many challenges and allowed their midfield to dominate him. I think we need to strengthen. A good ball winning midfielder, someone who is going to impose himself on the game and goal getter are needed. Overall, we should've won that match by a country mile. They were terrible. If we had been as ruthless in the second half as we were in first, we'd have had a cricket score, not to mention the penalty debacle. Defensively, as the commentary said, they never really opened us up. There were no tap ins, we just have to get at them in that second phase when we've cleared the ball, instead of standing and watching and, when we're defending corners, crosses, etc. we need to do that properly.
