A minority of Carlisle United supporters believe that 1921 can immediately pay off the debt to EWM, or at least a noticeable part of it, from the transactions involving McCarron / Galloway / Branthwaite / Henderson.

According to a reliable source at the club the values of these respective transactions have been exaggerated on the various media.

The headline amounts are not paid immediately up front. These transactions are paid in the form of maybe 10% up front and then in monthly payments over two years or more. When these monthly payments come in they almost immediately go out. The club is just about viable in terms of living off these payments, which will not go on for ever. There is certainly no club stash of cash.

At the last accounts, for the year ending 31/6/2019 the debt to EWM was £2.1 million and the total debt was £2.9 million. The EWM debt is subjected to interest, in the fiscal sense of the word.
