    This transfer window

It has smackings of the 2017 (?) one with PH

In a good league position, settled team etc

Yet all of the clubs in and around us as circling in order to upset the players in question and get them to take their eye off the ball and ulimately try to shove us out of the play off picture

Why don't we make a surprising announcement - bearing in mind Matty James hasnt been re-signed - and simply state - Mowatt can leave for feck all in the summer - he cost us around £400000 - we've had 3 years' service for that money - so we dont lose what we havent had. He then has 2 choices - sulk or crack on and disappear into the wilderness as he almost did before Stendel took over

Secondly , tell everyone styles is only for sale for £10m in the summer and he is under contract for 2 more years. So basically sod off and find some other soft touch to buy players off as we're seeing how far we can go this season - for the first time in a long while we ae on a slightly more level playing field simply because our business model hasnt had to change for covid - these bigger teams cant go splashing the coin about courtesy of future gate receipts ie Forests, Derby , Deedahs etc

Can't say I disagree with you! I posted in another thread saying Mowatt has to stay until the summer. If he leaves at that point then fair enough. Losing both him and James in this window will affect results - fact. I always look at Peterborough and the figures they sell their players for. Why can't we do that? They also have a policy where if a player enters into the last year of their contract and refuses to sign a new one, they get put into the under 23's and removed from the first team squad. Logic being that if you play well and someone wants you they will be pay what we ask, as opposed to you going into the last 12 months of a deal and the club having the uncertainty. Got their heads screwed on in that manner. We could learn alot!

You say losing James and Mowatt this window would affect results- fact. Well it isn't a fact is it, it's an opinion. And then you say if they don't sign stick em in the under 23's thus losing them from the first team anyway.
If Mowatt won't sign get the money. We're making nothing from gate receipts obviously, so get some dosh for him and spend it on a replacement. Its not the fact we paid only 400,000 for him, it's the way he's developed into the player he is and what that cost, also the cost of replacing him when he goes and the loss of a major player and any affect that has. Money definitely needs recouping and re-investing.

Styles currently is on small money compared to a lot of other players so I guess the club is trying to reduce costs, Bahre, James, Schmidt etc possibly Mowatt before offering a new contract to him..... they need to act fast.

Ok it's an opinion. But I think it's a pretty sensible one. Losing two players with that level of experience is bound to affect us, especially considering our usual approach to replacements and going on probability of what will happen. The whole point around the 12 months left and under 23's is that it's a club approach and a mindset that will be understood by players when they sign. It sets the principle and is the reason why Ivan Toney gets signed for £650k and gets sold for £5million (rising to £10million in add-ons). You have to start somewhere

this window is notorious for clubs overpaying for a player compared to the summer, so for us to get a replacement with £1.2m of similar ability is quite a big ask

my point is to keep hold until the summer - that then nips it in the bud for him and his agent, and gives us ample time to line up a replacement

You all know that what you are talking about is what we would all like to happen, unfortunately you also all know that this is NOT what will happen.
Mowatt will be sold for between 500k - 1 million because the owners are greedy barstewards and that is why they bought our club, they will replace him with Chirpy Chirpy Cheap Cheap from a league below us or from abroad, who will go on to be worth more in the future and we will then have the same conversation about him!
Styles will go if an offer of above 2 million comes in for the same reasons, they buy all these clubs in different countries and introduce the same model so that bank balance grows with minimum effort! As we have said before don't be silly enough to think that supporters of any of the clubs they own will ever have a say or ever be in the thoughts of any of them, they do what they want.

Mowatt has refused to sign a new contract and is waiting to see whats on offer so the simple thing is he is on his way out time to get his replacement or offer the money.

Mowatt and his agent have played this situation so far this season as good as a top poker player in a Las Vegas million dollar tournament and it was time their bluff was called in my opinion .

The club have priced him to sell at £1.2m given the six months left on his deal and the financial effects of the pandemic in the EFL .

They've quite rightly brought this to a head in my opinion and basically invited offers .

I'd take him out of the team now until this is concluded one way or another and he'd only get back in with his signature on a new contract .

If the clubs and the terms offered aren't to his liking and he turns them down and runs his contract down then sunday was his last game for the club for me .

You'll only play for this club again as I say if you sign a new deal .

Enough is enough now and this club needs to plan ahead .

Gone on far too long as this .
