Thread: Our Right Backs

    Our Right Backs

If I try and put together a Baggies XI from the Premier League then the position I struggle most with is Right Back. Best I can come up with is Steven Reid which especially when you consider his injury record is not great.

Always thought it made the most of his talent and you can't ask anyone for more than that.

    Must have forgotten someone

Craig Dawson was probably our best RB of the prem era,

But special mention to Stephen Reid. I also thought Billy Jones was half decent but he was only there for a couple of seasons.

Its also hard to pick a LB from the prem era, we always struggled in that position.

Igor was indeed a legend but was he a good full back.

Together with most of the rest of that squad he was found out at Premier League level.

For what that penalty meant to us, for that moment he was world class.

We haven’t had a decent RB or LB since Brendan Batson and Derek Statham, non of that true quality.

That’s almost 40 years of a wasteland in those positions.

Agree nothing even close to the quality of Batson & Statham. Saw Batson make his debut at Blues and thought he had a shocker. Dawson probably has been our best RB since which says a lot!

Like we all have a special memory of Igor I have a couple of Paul Robinson. There was THAT goal against the Villa never has a draw felt more like a win. And there was a tackle v Everton 15 mins or so into the game. Not for the first time they were bullying us out of the game. Robinson stuck in a bone crunching tackle that took ball, man and owt else in his way. He got up shook his fist at the rest of team. They responded and it lifted the fans. In terms of pure hatred of anything in an opposition shirt he took some beating.

I forgot Robinson, he was definitely our best left back since Statham.

I forgot to mention David Burrows at right back, I knew his cousin and played Sunday football with him so it was great to see him have such a good career at Liverpool.

Neil Clement was a good left back for us at the time too. And he had a cracking free kick in him, I'll never forget the one versus Wolves.
