O/T Bands - Better Live than in the Studio

How many times have you seen a band live (quite often as a support act or on the 'undercard' at festivals) gone away, bought their album and been really disappointed often by the lack of energy?

Also, what about bands that make good studio albums but are "not so good" live?

For many years The Stones have written songs specifically to be performed live but for me the best example of this is Muse, who make great studio albums come alive on stage. Hence over 500 arena/stadium gigs between 2010-2020, that’s averaging one a week somewhere in the world for 10 years.

White Lies made a couple of decent studio albums but were awful live

Would agree with Quo up to a point. Their albums 1970 to 1976 were untouchable, and by far the best live act I've ever seen. Even though the following material was inferior, they still remained electric in concert.

I couldn't disagree more.

Bernard Sumner's voice wasn't strong enough when they played live.

Same with the Stone Roses.

However, I would say that Future Islands, who are influenced by New Order, are better live thanks to the emotional performances of Mr Herring.

I wasn’t really watching them. They were playing at Reading Festival and I was just hanging about down the side. They played before Garbage in 98.
I was taken aback by how loud they were. I was also surprised they played loads of Joy Division songs.

Been to a few Floyd performances ( hate the word gig) and whilst they were experiences the PF music is best enjoyed through headphones
