12 NL North clubs have backed suspension of the season.
Have to say that the clubs must look after themselves here. If continuing under the current offer puts them at risk then I agree with their decision.
The 12 clubs to sign the statement calling for suspension...
AFC Telford 13th
Alfreton Town 21st
Bradford (Park Avenue), 14th
Blyth Spartans 22nd (bottom)
Curzon Ashton 16th
Darlington 19th
Farsley Celtic 11th
Gateshead 10th
Guiseley 20th
Kettering Town 18th
Southport 17th
Spennymoor Town 12th
So that's everybody in the bottom half apart from Hereford (15th)
Breaking news
National League North and South seasons to be paused for two weeks.
The whole thing is a mess.
Let's face it though, if we were near the bottom there would be plenty of our supporters calling for it to be suspended.
My post though was aiming at if it puts them at financial risk, not risk of relegation.
My own feeling more and more, didn't think I would say this, is that the season should be scrapped and the situation reviewed around May time with a view to starting in August.
This was my thoughts on it at first, but then the more I thought about it the more damaging I realised it could be to some clubs if the season was scrapped. Would jobs be at risk? Would player contracts become invalid? It could become a real mess and there are clubs like Notts, Stockport, Hartlepool, Chesterfield, Wrexham etc that surely would benefit from being able to complete the season.
Also, the NL giving themselves a couple of weeks grace with North & South will do nothing for the clubs in those leagues other than perpetuate the uncertainty of their existence.
Suspend season or play to end hopefully. PPG is unsatisfactory.
In theory - yes. But if the season were played to a finish, and that finish (due to COVID and bad weather) were to be mid-July or later then it would be chaotic for any clubs being promoted or relegated. To give promoted clubs a chance to strengthen, I think the NL season has to end at virtually the same time as L2 does.
