A quiet night in Clogland. As far as I can see just the one arrest, a 16 year old who set fire to a popular, thathched roof theatre in Rotterdam's largest park. Burnt to the ground, as is the lad's future.

Youngest arrested eejit 2 nights ago was an 11 year old. Rioting and out after curfew. Must have wonderful parents.........

Turns out the arrest info reported was incorrect. There have been 2 arrests. A 14 year old and a 15 year old.

Wednesday saw the first 6 rioters in court. 4 got jail terms from between 1 week and 4 months. The Justice Minister said earlier in the wek that they would be looking to recoup money for the damage and other expenses from those involved. They aren't waiting for cases to be heard either. They have already frozen bank accounts of people arrested, siezed cars and motor scooters, sequestered wages and salaries and will look at expensive designer clothing/TVs/Computers/Musical instruments and sound installations as well.

Thursday evening was extremely quiet over the entire country. The "rioters" have been active on "Telegram" again "organising" trouble for the weekend. Whether it kicks off again remains to be seen. The guy who got the one week sentence wasn't even at one of the riots. He'd written a couple of posts on Telegram giving "meet up points" he had plucked out of thin air and forwarded other posts from other people. He didn't think he'd done anything wrong and was certain they couldn't track him down via his Telegram pseudonym..... how wrong he was.

Excellent work but Im sure ECHR will be all over it and focus on the strange concept of "innocent until proven guilty"

All legal due to a Law passed several years ago GP. The action is designed to stop them getting rid of their assets to friends and family thereby avoiding losing their "stuff".

Friday night was another quiet night on the streets. It looks like the combined actions of the police, the footy firms and the siezing of assets early doors and the number of new faces appearing daily on news programmes of people wanted for their part in the riots are acting as a deterrent. In fact, the vast majority of those whose photos appeared on the news have handed themselves in.

GP, just to add to the cash and goods seizures. If folk are found not guilty, it is all returned.

Quietish weekend. There were some protests/demonstrations which were, in the main, peaceful. 600 on Amsterdam's Museimplein, for instance. Most there for the right reasons. Mid afternoon the stone throwing at the police started. 33 arrests. No looting or plundering anywhere.

    Has the message got through?

It's an interesting approach to "the cost of crime" MA, and one maybe the UK could learn from

Indeed. While awaiting trial they are allowed to keep some of their salary/wage/benefits. These are to cover housing and food costs, necessary insurance, essentials for the accused and any dependents. If found guilty, the same applies. If found not guilty, they get it all back.

I quite like the sound of this. Can you image the statue smashers being quite so keen to destroy something, they may have to pay for?

Tricky: better yet, as the value of such things are indeterminate, make the "smashers" work (for no pay) on a replacement memorial for the individual concerned. The idea of BLM activists remaking a memorial to Colston or Wills etc has an ironic appeal
