    Brighton FC.

    Brighton Football Club

They were in the fourth tier of English football and were having financial difficulties in the late 1990s.

After narrowly avoiding relegation from the Football League to the Conference in 1997, a boardroom takeover saved the club from liquidation.

Successive promotions in 2001 and 2002 brought Brighton back to the second tier, and in 2011, the club moved into the Falmer Stadium after 14 years without a permanent home ground.

In the 2016–17 season, Brighton finished second in the EFL Championship and were thus promoted to the Premier League, ending a 34-year absence from the top flight.

And today BRIGHTON ANNOUNCE £67.2M LOSSES
in their latest financial accounts – that’s a three-fold increase due to the effect of COVID-19.

The club’s filed their accounts of the 2019/20 season. For the previous year, Brighton made losses of £21.9m. Turnover has reduced from £148.2m to £132.9m. Brighton say an estimated £25m of the deficit is down to the pandemic.

Chairman Tony Bloom says the long-term aim of establishing the club in the top ten of the Premier League remains in place.*

The Brighton owner says: “Our main priority for the 2020/21 season is to remain in the Premier League. We will also be looking to make progress on our longer-term aim of establishing the club in the top ten of the Premier League, in line with the vision we outlined in the summer of 2019.”

This disgusts me that teams are allowed to rack up debts like this, and the rest of us are forced to go along with Ffp rules.
How much do teams need now to go up to the Prem, and then apparently you have to more than double it to have a chance of staying up ?. Its not the game we used to know is it, and its just getting worse when you see the likes of Brighton Fc doing this.
