Player of the season......so far?

Several contenders for me so far:-

CKR - Just for how he is and that he’s filled the hole brilliantly since Martin left
Knight - Young man who’s real stepped up and never short of effort
Marshall - Best keeper we’ve had in some time
Bielik - Been MOM almost every time he’s played recently
Clarke/Wisdom - tightened the defence up massively since Rooney took over....

Couldn’t really have an outstanding winner for me at the moment! I’ll see what the rest of the season brings!

Shinnie. My Hoot friends raved about him when we first bought him but he disappointed til Rooney turbocharged him. He's become the hard bugger I hoped he'd become, and he's handy with corners and free kicks too

Almost completely agree, Rich...but I’d also include Shinnie (MkII Rooney version) over Marshall.
Unfortunately it won’t be Bielik because I doubt he’ll appear again this season.
For me...with almost half the season to go...Clarke shades it in terms of reliability so far, but CKR and Wiz aren’t far behind.

Difficult, I'd say over the last couple of months that Shinnie and CKR have been our gutsiest performers, and Bielik the most talented, probably Premier League standard with a full season behind him.

Unfortunately, none of them have seen or will see a full season. I actually thought Shinnie was playing well in that little period where Rooney wasn't playing, and was hard done by having both Rooney and Bird playing ahead of him. I don't think he is promotion quality, but in the position we are in, he's been fantastic and would be 1st on the team sheet.

That said, Marshall has been pretty consistent all year, only having a couple of off games, and I'd expect to be our best player by the end of the season - so that's who I'd pick at this point.

Probably one that won't have occurred to anybody else but, IMO, Kelle Roos deserves a mention. 6 games, 3 clean sheets. 16 MOTM votes from forum members in those 6 games. 50% clean sheet record to Marshall's 31.8%.

Nobody's going to get POTS from 6 starts but he has to be our unsung hero of the season. Other mentions to Clarke, Wis, Knight and Bielik. For me the 2 stand outs, now Bielik looks like being out of the equation, are Buchanan and Shinnie. Shinnie just edges it for me.

As an aside I reckon Derby will have had 25-30 established ‘keepers in the time you’ve been supporting. Out of interest who do you, and others of a certain vintage think was the best...and the worst if you like?

you want other opinions? Colin Boulton. Unbelievable considering he was quiet short even by 70's standards at 510/511. Happy to take it in the face all day long, although I grant you his cross-stopping abilities were shielded a bit by the imperious MacFarland

Reg Matthews was my first. Little Les Green was brilliant but flawed. Colin Boulton was possibly the most consistently reliable. Shilton had an aura that put strikers off but, as you say, his distribution was questionable. Poom was excellent and we made a profit on him. He cost £595K and we sold him to the Black Cats for just over £3M. Taylor was an old fashioned guts n thunder keeper. Of the loan keepers we've had I had, and still have, time for Butland.

If I could have any of them brought back to us in their "Derby prime" it would be Colin Boulton.
