Pandemic modellers now forecasting Scotland could be Covid-19 free in the next fortnight.

Article is behind a pay wall unfortunately.

Todays figures show 175 new infections across Scotland yesterday with a total of 9 Local Authority areas showing zero new infections, including Dundee City!

I think if Nic is still First Minister next week, she should just throw everyone into Tier 0 and 1 and ask those without vaccines to consider the consequences of their actions until that jab goes in their arms.

Who was it that said, "we are not safe until everyone is safe"?

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-56968504

While we have made our decision that we will not be going abroad this year, i cannot believe that those in power are thinking of allowing foreign travel under the traffic light system that allowed the virus to re-seed itself in the UK last year. I also wonder where the industry will make their money when the majority of their market might not have a Covid Passport to allow them to travel.

Last year, Spain, France and Greece fell to the English Covid invasion, and depending on how those countries vaccination programmes are going, might lead to a negative effect once again.

Spend your money in Scotland, and if you have to, England, Wales and NI!

Difference now though - vaccines & testing. Both of which weren't available last year for holiday makers. It was 'here's a list of countries, quarantine or no quarantine'. Countries won't just be allowing anyone in. They'll have a list of countries allowed in & under what conditions, similar to us going out. There will also be emergency responses in place if infections do start to increase alarmingly. We have to start somewhere and put our faith in the vaccine & testing systems available.

For me, the only difference now is the Vaccine and the way it appears to cover a wide range of mutations so far and prevents transmission, but with roll out being so patchy around popular UK travel destinations, a new mutation could still negate our brilliant efforts!

I do not have any confidence in either the UK or Scottish Government reacting quickly enough to prevent outbreaks from coming home! Past responses still gave the holiday makers time to come back loaded with the virus, and i have doubts our quarantine system has the capacity if things return to 100% quarantine.

On testing, the LFT method is continually reported as very unreliable with anything down to 10% reliability depending on who you listen to. PCR testing takes far too long, BUT, i did hear a while back that a new easier, faster and highly reliable LFT test was in final development.

I think vaccine passports are coming, and i see it as a good thing, but we need to get to a place where we can do things without testing if everyone is vaccinated!

Although I expressed my opinion of the way our behaviour should be as the Pandemic progresses in another thread, what TTT said about variants in that thread is very relevant! I compile the first part of this on a Monday evening, and I have just listened to Prof Leitch say that within the Moray outbreak, cases of the Indian Mutation have been identified, but within that Mutation, there are 3 differing variants! I don’t know if I am right here, but the Indian strains themselves may have mutated from the Kent strain and with the Kent strain being dominant still in all areas, i am not so sure each strain has to cross borders to find someone to mutate with.

For me, ive had my first jab and now should be nearing the max immunity that provides, so i will still be following FACTS for most situations, but heading back to normality as much as possible!

And its about time footie was back with spectators!

The Indian variant is less likely to be vaccine resistant than any of the other variants though. So whilst it's capable of spreading fast, it's believed it won't evade the vaccine.

Notice Glasgow is now reportedly up to 74/100,000 and in real danger of being kept in Level 3.
