Regarding the hospital cases, they is usually a 3-4 week delay between cases rising and a rise in hospitalisations. There probably will be an increase in the amount of people being admitted to hospital in early January.

Hopefully this mini lockdown, along with schools being closed for two weeks (which is the big thing) will keep cases steady and not rising too much, which should mean that the increase in hospital cases in January doesn't peak too high and we can get back to normal(ish) asap

They’ve known this has been coming from the beginning of the month. We’ve also known from past experience that schools/pupils have been ‘super spreaders’ from the beginning of the pandemic. Why then have the schools not been shut this week (when we all know phuck all happens anyway in the last week) and also for the first week of January. This really could have had maximal effect on spread but minimal effect on education. Teachers unions (remember the actual ‘experts’ who actually deliver the education) have been calling for this all month. Or is it the case that some experts are more important than others?

This is lockdown in all but name. Folk are, for the most part, avoiding going out to shops, restaurants, et cetera. But the Scottish government are expecting this to happen with no furlough. I really feel for those working in these businesses. Meantime the cost of living is skyrocketing and interest rates are going up.

For whatever reason, Nic and her government seem to be hell bent on keeping the schools open no matter what!

Very true and they will do everything possible to avoid a full lockdown as before because Westminster is broke, skint, cash kaput. The Tories have given Scotland an extra £250m to help businesses out, if we were in full lockdown again that wouldn’t last a month.

100% school should have been shut multiple times over the past year. For whatever reason this is not happening.

Rumours on Twitter that The Rangers (who no doubt would love to play their difficult away games at the Sheep and The Tims over Xmas/New Year with minimal home fans) are going to block moves to bring the winter break forward…………..

To be honest, can't really blame them. Celtic are only wanting a postponement due to their injuries, nothing to do with standing up for their fans.

Although I am in favour of the early winter break
