In the 1930s, at the Western Biological Laboratory, 800 Cannery Row Monterey Bay, California, John Steinbeck and Ed Ricketts were drinking coffee, and watching Mac and the boys sitting in a group, further down the street.

Why does Americana always sound so wonderful? Because it is.

Mac and the boys, or tramps by english standards, were to feature in Cannery Row, in the then future. They were musing on what the boys were talking about. Was it the intricacies of repairing a Model T Ford, the mysteries of the female orgasm, or the price of whisky at Lee Chongs. It was probably all those things and more.

In the distance a parade was approaching and would pass Cannery Row, but not along it, it would pass the junction further down. And American Parades are wonderful.

Steinbeck bet Ricketts, or was it the other way round, that none of the boys would look. Not one of them did, as the parade went past. The boys had seen it a hundred times before, and were engrossed in more important aspects.

So what has that got to do with Cambridge United being top of division four in 2021?

Mysterious isnt it.
