just been reading about the above B17 express passenger steam loco.

73 engines were built , but none survived the scrapyard.

well, enthusiasts are building a" 61673 Spirit of Sandringham ", and it is hoped
will carry passengers on mainline railway lines from 2029

the B17 was an express passenger loco that operated the LNER lines up to 1960

it says summat about a design of 4-6-0 , which means fuck all to me.

the monies to build this steamer come from a charitable trust , so it must deliver public benefit.

I think the last of these locos was put to the torch just as I was taking an interest in it all. Anyway it is doubtful that I would have had a chance to "spot" one as they operated mainly in East Anglia and into London Liverpool Street Station.

A number of modifications of this class, B17/4 I think, were given the names of football teams, no, Wolverhampton Wanderers was not one of them. But Bradford Park Avenue [now extinct] was for some reason.

The 4-6-0 bit is easy mate. Look at the photo, 4 small wheels on leading chassis, 6 large driving wheels and 0 trailing wheels under the cab. Told ya easy innit!

Woody, Bradford (Park Avenue) play in the National League North.

Wikipedia states:-

Cheers Wokes. When I made the post there was something niggling the back of my mind that they may still be in business. Good for them. My Uncle lived in Bradford and actually took me to one of their games at Park Avenue. Long, long time ago though.


Not a steam loco but better than nothing. Haven't seen one named Sandwell yet!
