Krankie,s argument is flawed anyway because the notion that teams have nothing to play for doesn't resemble reality for many reasons. If only football were that simple.
Some players are trying to earn a new contract or get themselves in the playoffs starting XI and so will try much harder. Joe Newel springs to mind here.
Also other players will play with less pressure and won't be as cagey because there's no fear of losing and play with a lot more flair.
So what can happen is that a team that appears to have nothing to play for can actually play much better than normal
