Watching the sports news, Wales are apparently playing the worlds no 1 team tonight, Belgium. This a is country with a football infrastructure about the size of upper div 1.

Makes a nonsense of football. Its luck whether you get a team of great footballers or not, great teams come and go. Its serendipitous. No amount of coaching, academies etc make a difference.

Cambridge have a huge number of teams, every club does, i remember driving past the Blues training ground in the Wast Hills in the morning, and seeing the youngsters walking in, hardly any make the first team, and if there not snowflakes, might turn out for Redditch or Alvechurch. Yet fortunes are spent on it. Blues imported two french youth players god knows what year that was, neither made the grade.

The truth is coaches dont know up from down in regards to what makes a footballer. United used to churn out football league players regularly, thats gone now, why they waste time with no hopers god knows. That knowledge no longer exists.

Cambridge once had a cracking youngster, everyone got excited, they asked him if he wanted to be a pro, he said no.

There must be players in youth teams there just for the craic.

Belgium being the best team is a fluke, they will soon join Finland Estonia and England in the also ran league. As Cambridge are, or one or two seasons of success, then thirty of hell.

Bored by it all?

Richard of Lompoc. Watching it tonight??? No chance.

p.s, Frank Worthington has left us, i watched him playing for Birmingham. You wont get a player like that anymore, they dont fit into academies. Fair wind mate, your in a better place. If Frank was playing tonight, id be in front of the box.
