Nicola Sturgeon gloating about nurses 4% pay rise paid by Westminster

There is an article in today’s Scottish Sun where Nicola Sturgeon has been gloating that the 4% pay rise for nurses in Scotland is being paid by Westminster. https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/new...pay-wage-rise/
What a stupid comment to make by a person who is hell bent on Scotland becoming an independent country which confirms that an independent Scotland would be a much poorer place without the lavish annual income from the Barnet Formula and Barnet consequentials which are not ‘ring fenced’.

    So let's get this right.

The Sun, that bastion of fair and balanced journalism, reports that scummy Tory MPs say Nicola Sturgeon is gloating, doesn't actually quote Nicola Sturgeon beyond saying that she announced the 4% raise for NHS workers (a raise that Islay believes is unwarranted clearly) but Islay comes on here and states 'What a stupid comment to make by a person who is hell bent on Scotland becoming an independent country'.

What stupid comment did this sycophantic pro English and anti all other nationalities, racist scumbag rag quote Nicola Sturgeon as saying that they've translated or corrupted into gloating Islay? Because I can't see one. Is it where she says in a linked article “Our NHS staff deserve more than applause and 1% is not enough". That sounds like her opinion based on assessment of facts rather than gloating Islay. Do you think applause and 1% is enough?

The UK Treasury/HMRC collects the bulk of taxes in the UK and theoretically distributes these to the separate component parts of the UK. Each component part has their own priorities. The English component favours nuclear weapons and the Cayman Islands, the Scottish one prefers to spend on public services. Nothing complicated about it.

Wales and Norghern Ireland also do very well out of the Barnett Formula.
It is London and the South East that are earning the taxes which are being handed over to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland under the rules of the Barnett Formula.

England has its own deficit which is not fully-funded by London and the SE, no money from English taxpayers comes anywhere near Scotland or Wales or NI. Scottish public services are funded wholely and exclusively from taxes collected in Scotland. These are GERS 'facts'. If the tories were running the Scottish NHS through the Scottish Office, nurses in Scotland would receive the same 1% paycut as their counterparts in England.

That is a lot of rubbish that Scottish public services are funded wholely and exclusively from taxes collected in Scotland.
Today the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) has published a report which shows that the Scottish Government’s funding per person is almost 30% higher than the English equivalent. This extra funding is as a result of the money received as a result of the Barnett Formula. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotla...itics-56580359

The Scottish government is socialist in nature so spends more on public services. The English government is capitalist and libertarian in nature, so starves public services of funding. During the covid pandemic, the tories pushed £37bn into private companies, the Scottish government spent an equivalent for Scotland sum on enhancing NHS Test and Trace. If the tories had put that £37bn into the NHS in England, the IFS report would have been a bit different.

To put numbers to it, Scotland's public services are funded wholely and exclusively from the block grant, which was I think £32bn this year. Revenues estimated for Scotland are around £65bn. You should more argue that Scotland couldn't afford nuclear weapons after independence, I'd agree with you there.

The IFS analysis relies on the 'loan shark' model whereby the UK loan shark takes all of Scotland's money, buys what it wants for itself then gives Scotland what's left to pay its bills. By the end of the week, there isn't enough to feed the kids so the loan shark lends money back, at exorbitant interest rates. The victim can never escape the shark.

I'd genuinely like to see the UK adopt this model in Scotland, see how far it gets.
