    Best Goals From The 70’s?

Always loved this one from Mickey Walsh of Blackpool.

The chest control and how deep he took the initial pass for starters.

I was 12 at the time this was scored in 73 and always dreamed and failed of scoring one like this.

“Oh what a goal, goal, goal, goal”

The start of Match Of The Day with that goal and those words echoing from John Motson for some years afterwards, a fantastic goal.

This was in 1981 but I thought I'd post because I think this was probably one of the greatest goals ever scored...and it was disallowed

    Kevin Keegan

Armstrong was really interfering with play wasn’t he!? 😩

The keeper had no chance, ridiculous decision.

That goal was almost the spit of what Phillips could have scored today. Fine margins.

Ken Mallender the Hereford fullback that day was the Nike rep covering the same patch as me in the sports trade ( including Herefordshire where he was a local hero ) during the 90’s.

It was his idea to sell end of range football boots and trainers by mail order that lead to Hereford sports shop owner and Martin Churchward who owned a sports shop in Stourbridge ( who I’d already known for a few years ) setting up M&M Sports ( now M&M Direct ) which earned them both about £30m when they sold it off in the early 2000’s, I don’t think Ken made a bean out of what was his idea!

Hereford goalie that day was Fred Potter from Stourbridge.

Fred’s son Mark was by brother’s best friend at school and himself and his brother were very good players.

Fred played so well in the first match at Newcastle that Malcolm MacDonald walked into the Hereford changing room after the match and offered Fred his match shirt.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Hereford due to Fred and Mark Potter and because I knew the M&M Sports owners very well and did a lot of business with them, one of them was a massive Hereford fan, I took much stick when they beat us 1-0 at our place in the League Cup in the 90’s.
