Blimey, that is some serious cash to spend on a sound system. Contrasts dramatically with the little Dansette we had and that I used as a little kid to listen to my sister’s 78’s and 45’s of somebody called Buddy Holly.

Ah yes, the good old Dansette. The hours spend listening to The Beatles on one until I heard Bob Dylan on the radio and pestered my Dad to buy me a Bob Dylan record. I was listening on a Dansette player up until 1970-71 when once I was working I bought a stereo system on the knock. I remember sometimes having to put a halfpenny or a penny on the arm of the Dansette to stop it jumping on some records.

Phil started this thread by asking about vinyl. Something came to mind this afternoon. When I was a student (1970-75) buying vinyl LP's was still the only way to collect music but they were expensive. Most of us were well into music and each week somebody would buy either Melody Maker or the NME. One time I was looking at one of these and saw a very small advertisement from somebody offering LP's at a much reduced price. This seemed very unusual but it was an offer too good to miss out on and I remember buying The Captain and Me by the Doobie Brothers. It came through the post within a matter of days. The people providing this offer went under the name of Virgin and were run by somebody called Richard Branson

"I had one of those stands."

I bet you kept the singles in their wrappers, Q. I never kept em and would place my singles in the rack without (pictured) and I would get em scratched to buggery

Kept them all. I really regret leaving them all behind. I brought my EP’s though, Kinks, Animals Are Us, Rolling Stones and Five By Five.
