    Thoughts on season so far

With around 8 matches left, the English football season is drawing to a close. Here are some thoughts of Leeds season and the season in general:
    1. VAR has not been consistent. I have not liked VAR for some of the offside decisions that have gone against us. VAR for some penalty decisions has been frustrating.
    2. Leeds are close now to my prediction of no red cards for the entire season.
    3. Who will go down? I had initially said Sheffield United, West Brom and someone else. I am sticking with that. If I had to guess I would say Fulham is the 3rd team going down. Seem to have lost form at the wrong time.
    4. Hope Leeds can get my predicted 55 points. That should get us 9th or 10th place.
    5. Here is an interesting stat: As Leeds manager, Bielsa has not lost a single match when leading at halftime.
    6. Just want to point out that Leeds winning goals against Sheffield United in the 2 games both came from crosses from Harrison.
    7. Thought we have been unlucky in 3 matches: Liverpool (should have been drawn); the two matches against Wolves should have been drawn. Lucky to beat Burnley (should have been drawn). So I think we should be on 43 points.
    8. Norwich and Watford will be promoted.
    9. I think we will get a specialist left-back in the off-season.
    10. Rumors abound that Leeds will go in for a striker. This might not occur. We already have Rodrigo and Bielsa will certainly look closely at Gelhardt and Greenwood.
    11. A decision will have to be made on Forshaw and Hernandez. Regrettably, I think both will leave. Hernandez especially has written his name into Leeds folklore and has achieved Leeds legend status.
    12. Would like Leeds to go in for a player who can play defensive midfield (phillips position).
    13. With Klich, Rodrigo, roberts, shackleton and dallas, I am not sure Bielsa will try to find another attacking midfielder. But, what do I know.

Some good points there CP - totally agree about the Liverpool game, their penalty for the handball was a farce and ironically now wouldn't be given.

Happy with the season so far, some frustration but overall I think the team have have given it everything; even when they have been well beaten they have continued to the final whistle with passion, not sure many other teams can say the same

Rodrigo has categorically said he doesn't want to leave.

Bamford and Rodrigo off to Spain.
Aguero and Haaland are adequate replacements.

    Great season for me.

Bielsa and the team stuck to their principles and have played at times some breathtaking stuff and never been less than entertaining.

we can enjoy the last 8 games with a sense of safety from the drop which means we have achieved safety car sooner that I thought we would.

Would be great if we could get a big scalp in the remaining games - especially against the Mancs that play in red but think more likely against the scousers.

    4. We've been good, new we'd get humped in a few games. I'd just like us to beat a top 4 team to really show what we're about

So you're not so much a fan of VAR eh Joel?

Totally in agreement. as it is, it is damaging the game in just about every match, either directly because of f00king stupid "rules" that the robots at Stockley Park have to follow, or simply because even when they get it right (they do, sometimes), the game is inevitably stop-start because of the time taken to review and decide on outcome. Will they change (enough), nope!

As to the Leeds season, would be great to see some of the younger players who have been named as sub given game time (need careful coaching if they get used against the high flyers, need to understand the likelihood of victory, but also the glory if we won!).

Not sure I'd be sorry to see Rodrigo go, he hasn't set the world alight, has had too many injury niggles and I'd be ok seeing others (see above) given a chance to then get integrated into a revised 1st team for next season. Forshaw needs to go somewhere else, he will never regain sufficient fitness to fit into Bielsa-ball, same with Casilla (for different reasons obviously), and if Alioski wants to go then he'd go with a LOT of good wishes as long as he doesn't go to that club. Like to see the LB position filled, and a real striker to keep Bamford honest (and fill in if there are injuries), plus a second string GK unless we have a suitable "graduate" from the U23s, not much else on the incoming front.

As to finishing position, think we will get 11 or 12, we have too many hard matches left to make a real push for top 10, and frankly not sure what long-term benefit we would get (discounting the £s/place formula, given how many places we are talking about). Better to use the remaining matches to establish potential (and confirm requirement for new) for next season than flog the current 1st team regulars just for the odd £1-2m per place (IMHO). Be great to see us perform well against the high-flyers remaining, and maybe get a scalp (or two), but performing well is the key.

So thrilled we play the way we do. most every game has been much more enjoyable to watch than any other game that weekend on the prem. There's a reason that Leeds is on as often as they are here in the states.

I'll pile on regarding VAR. It's truly awful and is changing the game in a very negative way. Let the refs do their job and be ready to get rid of the ones that miss too many calls. Leave the goal line technology. does not come into play that often and it does make a big difference. it's hard for the linesman and head ref to always be in place for those calls.

think next year will either be very special for us or very awful. A lot of pressure on the the team, staff and MB to go to the next level. think we will do it but won't be stunned if the wheels come off. High risk/High return does not always go according to plan. It all hinges of whether we can score more. that's a big ask but certainly possible.
