    Our best bargain buy

And I'm not talking about Hi Fans because, even though we bought him for peanuts and sold him for £30 million, that only benefitted fatso.

No-I'm talking about players we paid relatively little for (or even nothing) compared to how well they did for us (and this counts Shearer out because, no matter how much we got out of him, you can't call £15 million a bargain at 1996 prices.

Pav has to be up there given that he was a free transfer-that he's become an iconic name for us says everything about how he did here. Shay Given, at £2 mil was a good piece of business, too, but doesn't equal Pav's free transfer.

Rob Lee-what was he...£700 000? Not ridiculous even at the time and nothing needs to be added about hiis playing career with us.

They were just the first two to come to mind (well, 3 including Shay)

    Others?

I know Jonás Gutiérrez was an undisclosed fee but whatever he cost he was value for money.

Dubravka at 1.8m and Perez for the same price.

I'll also add my personal opinion of the biggest waste for money. That little, sneaky, sniveling shyster Michael Owen for £22.5million. Mind you that's the best part of what mighty Joelinton cost.

Aye, some cracking examples there, Pat.

As for biggest waste of money...there's a thread there although you've already nailed the top two in that list. (although I don't dislike Joelinton-it's just that he's shite)

Yes it's just unfortunate for him as he appears to be a nice lad. Perhaps we ought to replace him with Sol Campbell for the nasties.

Evening, John. Ha ha...aye, in terms of what we got for him compared with what it must have cost our Academy to produce him.

And in case you don't know how poorly our Academy is funded, that will roughly amount to £3.50 and the cost of the Metro newspaper.
