Shouldn't there be a proper full test of our ability to divert an asteroid of a size dangerous to Earth? Let's pick one that is an appropriate size and not heading for Earth. Let's divert it by a few degrees to a course that is further away from Earth.
Having a proof of this ability from actually doing it would be a relief worldwide.
Surely the Yanks, Russians, Chinese, Indian and other space-fairing countries could collaborate technologically and financially on this. We do not want the first test of this to be when the situation occurs for real.
