Why on earth are they making another European tournament. Champions league should be for champions, Europa League should be winners of cups and maybe 2nd and 3rd in the league. Who wants to watch a competition where it is going to be teams that finish mid-table in their own leagues.

I agree for us, the qualifying rounds of Europe have been good warm up games rather than playing pointless friendlies... but even if we qualify for the group stages of the conference thing (assuming there are group stages), what's the point - it's surely going to be like that lower league Challenge cup thing we have in Scotland that's just an embarrassment to be involved in.

If they were doing a 3rd competition it would be better resorting to the cup winners cup idea - Champions in Champions League, 2nd and 3rd in Europa league and cup winners in cup winners cup. This new thing just sounds like a joke.

Europa for cup winners and the extras plus drop outs
Conference for the others and drop outs

So it seems that the Scottish Cup Winners are not guaranteed group stage football after all.

According to Bert Kassies they will now enter the Europa League at the QR3 stage rather than PO where they will play one of the beaten teams from the Champions League QR2 Non Champions Path. This will be either PSV, Galatasaray or the 2nd place team from either the Austrian, Danish or Czech leagues.

If they lose that tie they will drop down to the Conference PO round.

With all this noise , petition about the set up ,anti super League, demand for sporting integrity to be upheld , only qualify for Champions league on merit etc etc ..
Do you think using same principles these clubs in England or any of the " top Nations" will argue that ALL league winners ,under sporting integrity statement should qualify automatically for group stages .
Leaving other clubs to go through qualifying rounds ... No chance

Clearly, a Champions League should be for Champions only.

Winners from all the leagues in Europe do battle until only two are left etc. etc.

Whatever happened to real football?

It should have said PO round as in Play Off round.

So we enter the Europa Conference League at the 2nd Qualifying Round stage where we will be seeded.

If we win that is currently touch and go as to if we will be seeded for the 3rd Qualifying Round or not, that should become clearer in the coming days.

The draw for the 2nd Qualifying Round takes place on June 16th with ties to be played July 22nd & 29th.

3rd Qualifying Round draw is July 19th.

This competition is an absolute farce tbh.

Teams that finish 2nd in their group have to play off against a 3rd place team from the Europa League groups to reach the last 16.
