Thread: Burnley v West Ham Match Preview

Shocking defending for both goals. Why Cork did not give Jay a shout to "leave it" God only knows.

Lowton really is simply not good enough in this league and why on earth Dyche gave the Hammers the freedom to attack down their right flank I have no idea.

Agree completely BT , and also Vintage clarets points re and I’ve posted many times we are headless chickens with no plan other than plan A ,
They’re a slick outfit but if you give quality players time and space at any level they’ll destroy you , posted on other thread we are way way way too slow centrally to compete we can’t get at players when we lose the ball and our shape sometimes doesn’t help that either ( were fit but not fast ) and that is the root to all our problems , that and the in ability to change shape - it’s one out football or nothing.

We were beaten by a better team on the night. Only 4 games to play and we are 9 points ahead of Fulham and 10 clear of West Brom. A Burnley win at Craven Cottage settles the relegation issue once and for all. Bring it on.

I am also looking forward to the game at the Cottage, but we’ll have to do better than last night. West Ham looked useful, but not sure about a 5th place team. Before the game, I really did think that we could win it. I soon changed my view, by half time.

It wasn't just Lowton, Taylor and Ben Mee were shocking as well, three times Ben dived in on the half-way line, three times left for dead, hopelessly out of position. Having said that I was well impressed with West Ham, especially in the first half, no tippy tapping around on the edge of the box, for the most part they got their crosses in as soon as they could, and we couldn't cope with it. We set up to give teams the wings, we're happy for them to pass it around and fanny around the edge of the box, West Ham took the space we gave them and whipped the crosses in, it seemed to take us by surprise, as well it might, top six teams aren't supposed to do that, that's our game.

They did Sinkov and I think Mee was exposed because a lot because the midfield couldn’t cope , it got pulled all over (5 men v4 again ), it’s funny but I was thinking last night if Tarky gets a club and is going we may need two centre backs as I think Mee is lacking in pace and I’m unsure he’ll be able to play at this level much longer unless we get a real find of a young centre back with legs for both of them.
I know we’ve covered this subject before but Cork I’m afraid doesn’t have the legs centrally especially against an extra man ( technically he’s very good ) but mobile he is not.

He may be alright sat in the hole in front of the back 4 that could suit him actually where he can see what’s in front of him. ( we’d have to change the structure / shape of how we play though to accommodate that.

Our lack of depth showed again as we put all our eggs in Mcneil s basket and whilst they played in black last night the claret blue he played for was them not us ( gave it away numerous times - but not how I like to see him - can’t fault a wide man who has a go and gets tackled etc. But lost possession all over the pitch - probably a lot to do with us being overrun centrally tbh.

We need to beat Fulham and put this season to bed , it’s a big re build for our new manager though
