Thread: Grange-over-Sands Lido.

  1. #1

    Question Grange-over-Sands Lido.

I'm off to see a customer up in Grange today, brought back memories of the coldest swimming I have ever experienced.

Anyone else remember having a frost bitten dip in this pool?

I didn't know they had one. The only time I've been was after a walk across Morecambe Bay. I did swim in the open air pool somewhere near nelson as a kid.

I think the one you are referring to was in Marsden Park. My dad used to take me and three of my male cousins there. Great fun it was too.

Yes,I used to go regularly as my mother in law had a static in Grange. Always enjoyed the lido with great views across the bay.

Still visit Grange every now and then.

I was up there today. Secured a nice deal, had a stroll on the promenade, followed by a rather splendid alfresco lunch at the Commodore.

The lido needs a lottery win though to help it get restored.

Marsden Park was a big deal back in the day. I can remember the middle Sunday of the Burnley holidays in 1971, we lived in Baxenden, it was hot and sunny, we packed a picnic and drove over to Marsden Park for the afternoon, hard to credit nowadays but it was very popular at the time.

I can remember the exact day because as we were driving over past the Griffin at Huncoat, we saw a UFO hovering over Hapton Valley Colliery, middle of the day, not a cloud in the sky, and there it was. Mrs S saw it as well, it was a grey/silver cigar shaped object just hovering, we caught several glimpses of it as we drove along towards Hapton, tha last we saw of it, it was vanishing rapidly diagonally upwards. Mrs S still doesn't like to talk about it, it still frightens her a bit, because to this day we have no idea what it was.

I think you had probably sunk one to many in the Griffin sinkov. That was probably Alf in his first motorhome you spotted.
