    Brin, the French wouldn't beat us if we only had catapults, to be victorious in conflict you need a modicum of courage (or an atomic bomb that your enemy doesn't have ), which the French seem to lack ( apart from those brave souls in the resistance during WW2)

    Yes but the channel islands aren't really in the channel, they are very close to mainland France.
    Understandable why the French have a long standing gripe.
    Imagine if the French owned the Isle of Man and Anglesey and then tried to ban UK ships from large parts of the Irish Sea
