You may not care how much money he's making but he certainly does. We have very successfully marketed ourselves as a stepping stone club, probably to the extent we've overdone it and need to row back, but if we ever end up with a squad full of players with no ambitions beyond Fir Park we will find ourselves in the first division very quickly...

Balance is everything - I definitely agree the stepping stone thing has become too much both to the annoyance of our support and detriment of the playing squad. But if you want to go back to the days when the majority of players cared greatly beyond themselves you need to wind back to amateur days because players have moved for money since there was professionalism in the game.

And at Motherwell we've probably had as many or more identity figures who have given the club tonnes and care about us as anyone else in the last while.
