Seems to be a decent enough player. Was highly thought of at Cheltenham and obviously St. Mirren. Not sure I agree with the Record article saying he's an attacking midfielder though?

Let's just hope the kid wants to hang around a bit longer.
Is that figure legit? Because did we not have 12 academy graduates play last season, that would mean it has cost £2.4m to develop them. Surely that can't be right?

It's a guess based on 8 years worth of training but yeah, it'll probably be a fair bit lower than that given his age. There's a great article somewhere on the Charlie Telfer compensation and why we had to pay £170K. Breaks it down and gives an understanding of just what are classed as training fees right down to things like the cost of a hire pitch, tuition fees, travel expenses etc. As for the £2.4m, each player is different. Not every academy graduate will have been with us since they were 8 years old like Smith.

I think that's the article you are talking about? Very interesting. Its a shame in our accounts that the academy costs aren't broken down

Jake Doyle-Hayes is on course to put pen to paper with Dundee United in the next 48 hours.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder was offered a new deal by St Mirren, for whom he starred last season.

But the Irishman is understood to prefer a move to Tam Courts’ United – and is set to finalise his switch over the coming days.

Doyle-Hayes came through the ranks at Aston Villa and spent time on loan with Cambridge United and Cheltenham Town before moving to Paisley in November 2020.

From then until the end of last season, he made 30 appearances for Jim Goodwin’s side – a sign of his importance to the Buddies.

However, as exclusively revealed by Courier Sport a fortnight ago, United had been tracking Doyle-Hayes too.

Barring any last minute hitches, he will join up with his new Tangerines team-mates at their St Andrews training base this week.

I dare say if he was to stay here until his early 20's we'd probably be looking at a cost more like what I originally quoted. £100K for example right now breaks down as £12.5Ka a year. It's not a lot when you put it like that.

Is he attacking mid/ creative mid though?

if not then Fuchs/Butcher must be away.
