Rotherham United Academy now has 30% of their intake from 8 years old who have come through the Future Stars pathway and this continues to grow term on term.

How many academy graduates have been offered a contract this season? I know Greaves has last year but he joined at 16.

I'll name them all for you:

Oh, I already have named them all. Greaves.

Bit of advice to anyone with a young lad who's promising. Get them into a local junior club and let them play footy with their mates. If they're good enough they'll get picked up at 14/15 yo.

It might look fantastic but it's a 'cattle market' concept and you have to pay for the privilege. Stick with a local club and develop your game with your mates.

A lot of money has been invested in grassroots football and in coaching qualifications. Every school has 2 or 3 local clubs within 2 miles radius. Make friends there and don't pressure the kids. Let them play footy and enjoy it.

Note on the above link that by the time these kids are 11 it's by invitation only. How's that making friends?
