Champions League final may be played in Portugal and not at Wembley

Portugal is a strong candidate to host the Champions League final after Uefa did not gain guarantees of exemptions it wants to move the game to Wembley. Uefa, UK government officials and the Football Association met on Monday to discuss moving the game between Chelsea and Manchester City from Istanbul.

Uefa has decided it will be moved after Turkey was put on England's red travel list meaning fans cannot travel.
Portugal is on the green list so fans would be allowed to attend on 29 May.

The match could still be played at Wembley but it would require a major shift from the government, who have so far failed to reach an agreement with Uefa. European football's governing body feels in Portugal it is going to be easier to gain access for sponsors and broadcasters, who would need to be compensated if they were unable to attend the game.

Porto has been mentioned as a potential venue but it is understood Lisbon, which hosted last year's final, is also a possibility. Travellers from England to green-list countries must follows rules before departure but do not have to quarantine on their return.

At least all the City and Chelsea fans who were willing to travel, won't have to face the moronic Turkish fans who would just love to have a pop at them, as there is trouble there every time an English team/fans turn up.

If it's being moved, the decision to have it in Portugal rather than England makes about as much sense as our decision to have Gru as the next RUFC manager

So it’s about money again as opposed to safety

Apparently our Government haven't given UEFA any clear indication they would allow it to go ahead but, they've just announced 10,000 home fans can attend their last home Prem games. This may the green light to UEFA, let's wait and see.

UEFA wanted hundreds of European nationals to enter England without Covid testing. Who do they think they are? It's a blinking football match, involving the two richest clubs in the country. Play abroad, or don't play it at all.

Confirmation, Portugal is to host the Champions League Final. At least it’s not too far to travel for the fans.

Is this another snub though at a final being allowed on British soil ?

Championship play offs on same day which would’ve had to be moved, right thing to do seeing that it wasn’t scheduled here anyway.

    Playoffs 22nd aren't they? Champs league 29th.

Still, don't see why several thousand UEFA bigwigs should just walk in with no issues. Definitely the right thing.
