    London

    Was Doon at the weekend.

Generally much more relaxed than up here, challenged about mask twice but accepted am exempt.

Even train was ok until we changed to a Scottish train manager at york who was threatening everyone with fines and transport polis over the tannoy......I'd say about 20% ignored him as it was pretty hot on the train.

Just a wee thing that amused me on the tube......those with masks still insisted on touching the the handrail on escalators.....surely keeping yer hand aff o something that's touched by hundreds of thousands a day would be better than a daft cloth over your face.😁

The face masks are not stopping the spread of the Covid-19 virus. The ‘one size fits all’ single use face mask is no use as it does not completely hug the face. There are spaces at the side for the virus to escape. The health experts know this but they are forced to do as they are told.
The saying ‘men lead by donkeys’ comes to mind.

Think the expression is lion's led by donkeys. The point however is well made.

This was a popular (maybe bad word choice) theory in the 60s and 70s but the incompetent generals theory has been debunked in recent years .....I think Blackadder goes 4th helped reignite the phrase.

Was watching some programme on Smithsonian the other week that pretty much debunked the mad British general theory as well.

I've never been in or really had an military family history so no sure what side I'd come down on....donkeys or not.....maybe a bit of truth either way.

The casualties were horrific though, eye watering numbers.

People obeying orders from above ......wee bit like 2021.

Having explored the Wellington Tunnels at Arras, regardless of debunking, the idiocy of toffs sending the common man up ramps to open field machine gun fire will remain in my mind forever.

A large number of generals also died, French British, German, Belgium if I mind.

The "tactics" were obviously questioned but the idea that every general was 10 miles behind the front line being served the best of everything from butlers was most certainly disproved.

    Found it really interesting.

I like seeing how phrases an that start and the programme just caught my eye.

I would agree. Nobody now could imagine the terror that these men had to deal with while they waited for the whistle. It seemed that they were expendable.
