Nottingham Forest and Barnsley lead the chase to sign Brentford play-off hero Emiliano Marcondes, Football Insider can reveal.

The Danish midfielder, 26, was one of three players, with Henrik Dalsgaard and Luke Daniels, released by the Bees with their contracts expiring this month.

A source has told Football Insider Championship duo Forest and Barnsley have registered their interest in signing Marcondes on a summer free.

Both clubs are expected to offer contracts to the former Denmark Under-21 international.

Marcondes produced a man-of-the-match performance in the Championship play-off final, scoring the second goal in the 2-0 win over Swansea City.

He also provided the assist for the winner in the 3-1 second leg semi-final victory over Bournemouth.

Championship Barnsley are reported to be preparing an offer for Blues midfielder Flynn Downes.

The 22-year-old has been told he can find a new club this summer along with most of his team-mates.

The Tykes are set to make a move for the former England U19 and U20 international.

Last summer, the Blues turned down two offers from Crystal Palace for Downes of £1.2 million and then £1.6 million with the Brentwood-born academy product subsequently handing in a transfer request.

Downes, who is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2022 with the club having an option for a further season, made 17 starts and eight sub appearances for Town in 2020/21 and in total has made 75 starts and 25 sub appearances for the club, scoring three times.

Emiliano would be a real coup although it will be difficult with our wage structure .

High end championship player to say the least .

If we pull that off I'd be massively impressed .

Stipe Perica. 6ft 4in Croatian striker who currently laiks for Watford linked with us according to one report. Apparently we've made a 1.5m bid.

The lad has Serie A experience with Udinese although he didn't feature much for Watford last season which is understandable considering the calibre of Watfords strikers. Could be just what we're looking for.

    Doug O’Kane Chronicle:

Dane Murphy: “We have had discussions at left wing-back. Callum Styles has had an incredible year there but his most natural position is in the centre.
“Is there a scenario where we can push Callum to the inside and strengthen the left wing-back position?”

Barnsley could bring in as few as ‘one or two’ more first team players this summer if all goes to plan, says Dane Murphy.
The chief executive added that he would like the main business to be done before the Reds return for pre-season on June 28.
