I know most on here are not fans of Dowling but I think his departure is ominous, he pushed for Wilder and probably did the honourable thing and left when he was overruled by FOL. We are now a club run hands on by a puppet master who knows absolutely nothing about the game. Worrying times!!
Whether he's done the honourable thing or not, overall his stay has been a bit of a disaster.
Without even going into his transfer dealings. He ripped apart our youth team and handed Villa several of our brightest young players and coaches. That will come back to bite us in the coming years.
You are completely correct '67. Dowling may not be everybody's 'cup of tea' but the board were unanimous in the appointment of Wilder and then that Chinese idiot vetoes it! How can you run a football club with someone like him calling the shots. It's an absolute disgrace and beyond comprehension. Something really drastic has to be done about the situation, and quickly!
What a complete and utter mess our appalling owners have left us with.
No manager and no Technical Director to appoint the next manager.
No one credible will touch us with a barge pole now in what could be one of the most make or break times for the club.
Crazy thing tho is he (Lai) knows nothing about football so decision must have been purely financial
Downing is getting a load of stick and not without reason, but he bought in Periera Diangana and some other decent players and we did get promoted and Bilic was a very good appointment
Moving forward we will not even get that quality of player or manager
I do agree though that he was messed up with the youth system and players

Bilic was the one who identified Periera and Diangana.
I also read Bilic didn't want to permanently sign Diangana because he thought he would take up too much of the budget.
Dowling signed Austin, Zohore, Kipre. I'm not sayinghe was always wrong, but generally his transfer business has been poor and the way he dealt with our youth setup was abysmal.
Again, I have read somewhere that Lai has lost faith in Dowling. All depends on who he brings in to replace him, but I can't say I'm that disappointed he's gone.
Derek McInnes will be a brave man to risk his reputation amongst this shower. Whatever you think of Dowling, though, I am not surprised at his departure, to do your best for the club (even if we don’t agree with him) and be overruled by the tw@t in China would surely drive most in that position to resign.
