We were beaten fair and square by Harrogate,it was not down to official decisions, as in especially Coventry then Torquay

I think referees are humans, work with incomplete information and are subject to intense influence from crowds, players, managers, and the position of the planets. Sometimes you get some poor decisions against you, sometimes you get some good ones.

Unless of course you're Notts County. We have fantastic luck and can snatch defeat from the jaws of any victory.

Best of luck with the final mate.
Let's face it we more often than not we don't know if it was a foul or offside etc. Until we see a slow motion replay so what chance has the ref got?

He can use his linesmen/assistant referees opinions though. The disappointing one for the penalty was that he didn’t even look at the lineo before giving it, even though he had a far better angle and thus view.

He makes an instant decision that he doesn’t have to. He can easily confer with his linesmen.

The lineo isn’t going to overrule after he’s blown.

Whilst Torquay would argue they were already winning, the fact is that chasing 2 goals is not the same as chasing 1. It’s creates additional desperation for the attacking team, and gives the defending team more confidence.

That all said. What cost us was some quite shocking defending. The ref just took the piss.

Doesn't the ref have a radio link to his linesmen? And you often see a ref having a conversation with them and sometimes changing their mind.

Whatever way you look at refereeing decisions the one consistency is that all teams fall foul of them. And as the decisions are wrong consistently whilst we can all moan about the officiating it says more about the ability of a human to pass the correct judgement with very little time to make a decision than it does about any rule book. In short the standard won't improve without the intervention of a non human and as we have seen with Var that creates an entirely new set of issues. And after all what would we all complain about without a few bad decisions here and there to raise the heckles!

I think var should be used in important games but even then quite often it is still down to human interpretation on close calls.

And that should happen, but doesn’t often enough. Against Torquay, it clearly didn’t, there just wasn’t time. The ref had decided from 20 yards away and from behind the players that he didn’t touch the ball, a position he absolutely could not see from. This would have been visible from the linemen’s position.

Bad decisions happen, but to not use everything available in the game at the time is criminal, and strikes of a narcissistic personality.

I do wonder whether this is a common trait amongst the ref fraternity

If players stopping cheating it might make many reffing decisions easier. Feigning being fouled, feigning injury, claiming the ball had gone out off someone else when it's clearly hit them etc ad infinitum.

How do you know? the lino could have thought the ref was right so didn't flag.

Agree Cher, they make difficult for the ref.
