    I find it very strange

that Lai vetoed the appointment of Wilder who we could have signed without compensation yet it appears he is willing to pay £2 million to Barnsley to get Valerian Ismael. Lai must really have strongly been against Wilder to shell out money for an alternative. It really makes you wonder what goes on at the club behind closed doors. If he comes then I really hope he gets rid of all the lethargic dross we have and gets in some energetic and keen to succeed players.

I think Wilder was a bit of a pain in the arse for the hierarchy at Sheff Utd, especially re players and backing and I'm sure owners talk to each other

As a coach I am sure he would have been a good appointment, but I can't get over the amount he wasted on transfers last season and if he was in charge of them, maybe we did a good thing by passing on him, but then again look at the year before and where Sheff Utd were with little spend (but probably still more than we would)

Wasn’t there some kind of business relationship between Lai and the Saudi crew running Shef Utd. Sounds like it was a political/business decision ... not a football decision ....

I don't know this, so I'm just guessing. But I imagine Ismael's salary would have been lower than Wilder's. Its possible that £2m compo + wages would equal the same as Wilders salary over the course of a 2 or 3 year contract.

That would make sense, cheapest option, always.
